latest song: “Lost Time”
i wrote this song this morning and it was one of those times where everything flowed out and i was able to have 2 verses, chorus and bridge happen in 1 hour… a (relatively) complete song.
i recorded this RIGHT after i thought i finished it so it’s raw, shaky, and even a plane flies by in the middle of the song. hope you can envision this song at its best despite the quality and performance!
a song about the longing we all have to know and be known by our father (both senses of the word).

hey friends… one of my friends asked me this question on Facebook regarding the lyrics of this song. Thought i’d post it so that it would clear things up!

“It’s not me, it’s them
Saying everything so far”
seems to indicate that ‘everything’ would refer to what other people are saying about the ‘you’ in the song, but it could also be referring what other people are saying about the ‘father’.
Is it purposefully ambiguous or am I just having a brain-dead moment?

haha.. thanks for the question. “it’s not me it’s them” is referring to a scenario where there may have been rumors of what the dad is like (things the mom may have said, etc) so he’s basically expressing a desire to know his dad for himself, rumors aside.
the other double meaning of this (and this gets deep) is in Matthew 15, Jesus asks Peter “who do YOU say that I am”, asking Peter to give his own account of Jesus. When we don’t have our own experience/encounter with Jesus, we tend to only spit out what we’ve heard in church or what we’ve heard others say. Authentic worship of the Father happens when we can say who He is based on His nature having been revealed to us, not when we just take the “rumors” and accept them as fact.

Hey DK, thanks for sharing this song… I like it! And even more, I like how you’re willing to be so vulnerable by putting your work out there when it’s still so fresh and raw. I tend to keep my stuff to myself until it’s “perfect”… which, of course, it never is. I need to work on that… thanks for modeling it for us!

hey kevin, thanks for stopping by. it’s definitely every song-writer’s tendency to hold back until we achieve “perfection” but you’re right, we may never reach that point! it’s like having a kid… you’re never quite ready until you just actually have one…. i think that makes sense?
