updated american idol power rankings – rock n’ roll of death!
ROCK N Rollin’ good times! There were some highlights, but there were also some low moments (especially one in particular), but overall a pretty interesting show! I actually enjoyed the pair-ups and thought that the Glambert/Allison combo worked like magic! That would be an interesting single and I’d actually consider buying that.
I never knew Slash was such a mellow, well-spoken dude. Always thought those crazy rocker types would slur their speech for stylistic or drug-addiction reasons but Slash actually sounded pretty smooth. Don’t know why that’s important but it stuck out to me… that along with his patented hairstyle. Is that thing a wig?
This week, I’ll do something different by ranking the remaining 4 according to my preferences (like always) but in parantheses, I will display their “true rank” which is where they should be ranked based on last night.
It’s going to be really interesting who goes home tonight because a couple of the major frontrunners really flopped! I don’t know what’s going to happen anymore! I’m confused! The world is in turmoil and it’s being reflected on American Idol! Aahhhh!!!
The top 4:
1. Kris Allen (true rank: 3)
Kris Allen may be in trouble tonight but if previous weeks have told us anything, it’s that Kris has some very loyal fans. I don’t think I believe in Kris as much as I had once believed in Matt Giraud — Kris is my weekly number 1 only because I don’t know who else to get behind! Sometimes he feels good and confident but in other weeks (like last night), he seems a bit tentative and unsure of himself. If you’re going to win this, you have to believe it and you have to carry yourself like you’re going to take this thing. It’s the eye of the tiger that was missing in Kris and without that, you can’t win. Kris will be a successful recording artist, though, and his career will probably fare better in the long run than anyone else in this competition.
2. Allison Iraheta (true rank: 2)
If Allison entered this in any other year, she would be the clear cut favorite. Of course, I could say that about anyone in this top 4 but in any case, I think she has a good chance of making it near the end. She will probably earn the female vote (like Sarah Palin did?) as well as the aspiring teenage singers’ vote. It was also a surprise to see her not in the bottom 3 last week. Do miracles happen? Yes they do. Do I believe in miracles? Yes I do. Is Allison going to pull off a miracle and win this thing? I don’t know.
3. Adam Lambert (true rank: 1)
Wow. What a joy it was to see Adam in the bottom 3 last week! Too bad it only woke up the sleeping giant that is his loyal following and I’m sure they voted him to the top this week. Notice that his true rank is #1 this week but that’s about as high a praise as I will give him. We all knew he would kill it this week because this is his clear-cut favorite genre of music where his screaming is actually somewhat appropriate, but still… this is what he’s been doing all along and it’s still annoying and unoriginal. What can we do, though? This is just how he sings and he’s good at what he does.
4. Danny Gokey (true rank: 4)
Danny, Danny, Danny… what in tar-nation were you thinking?!? What a completely desperate move that was last night! No amount of strobe light on yo’ face can hide the fact that you were a screaming banchee at the end of the song and the reason the American Idol marquee fell down last night is because you shattered a great deal of the credibility you had built up over the past few months! What Danny did last night was the High School equivalent of the class geek showing up in baggy jeans and leather jacket, pumping his fist in the air and declaring “power to the people”– it was completely out of place, out of character, and didn’t help anyone’s cause. Wow, what a disaster!
My Bold Predictions:
I don’t know anymore. Last night threw the musical world off-balance! Adam stays though. Everyone else is at risk and that can’t be good!
